Capsize in controlled and safe conditions – Sunday 7th September at 11.00am.

In my last note I indicated that I would be running a training session on capsize and recovery at the Club on Sunday 7th September and that we would use the dock.  Unfortunately, and rather late in the day, the Environment Agency were not happy for us to use the dock in this way but the Harbour Master suggested that we might try to run the training session on the small lake belonging to Bendalls the scrap merchant on the road to the Club.

Permission has now been granted for us to use the lake and so the training exercise will take place but in even safer conditions.  (The lake is only 6 foot deep!)  I propose to start with a dry land session at about 11.00am at the Club before we make our way to the lake where a fully rigged Wayfarer will be ready for each on the course to do two capsizes.  Hot drinks will be available for all participants before going back to the Club for a hot shower.

I hope that many members will avail themselves of this opportunity of practicing their capsize drill in a controlled environment so that when it happens for real they will know what to do.

Please let me know if you and members of your family can attend.
